Like a meteorite
It flew across galaxies
Like the speed of a light-years
Its debris littered across races,
Its effect
So visibly seen
Its rampage
“Overwhelming”.
Yet no one paid heed
Its complexity
So sophisticated,
Its nucleated cell
So intricate
It could not be understood.
Like a smooth criminal
It crept in
Bringing to a halt
Everything
Stealing our joy
Laying our elderly
Too soon to rest
The younglings
Mother Earth was in awe
She had no clue
(She, yes she)
Yet she waved it off
"It would go in no time"
She called it “a hoax”
But she was wrong.
Then came our historians
Their projections they gave.
Then came the health experts
Their prognosis, they gave
What they do best they did
An insight into its mechanism
Yet no cure offering
Along came the preachers.
They prophesied,
Our fears pacified
Yet, it got worse.
In doing this,
Her resolve thought the earth strong
That this,
With her strength
She could wane down,
But she was wrong.
And there across
Beneath the falling stars
Beneath the fiery comets
We know,
Someday we would find hope.
The hope, that
This was just a dream
We would simply wake
With tears of joy,
It was just a dream.
